Flying high

This isn’t my most eloquent post, and I’m not so sure it makes sense, nor does it really go anywhere. but as you’ll see, I wrote it on the flight home, in the middle of the night, in I’m not even sure what time zone. Haven’t written a while so thought I’d post it anyway.

Currently sat on an aeroplane at 32,000 feet high in the air, writing a blog post for the first time in months. Why not? I can’t sleep and have a fast asleep Matthew sprawled across me, seems as good a time as any to start writing again!

So, the reason I’m flying through the air (as my Facebook friends will be fed up hearing about) is because I’m flying home from my vacation (picking up the American lingo….) in the wonderful US state of Florida. And it has been fab. Spent an exhausting, exhilarating, exciting (see the alliteration there?) week in Orlando seeing Mickey Mouse and all his pals with my best friend and all round amazing boyfriend Matthew. (awww….) Following this, we met up with my crazy parents, who’d been in Boston, and drove down to a beautiful part of south west Florida called Marco Island for some much needed relaxation. And that’s exactly what we did. Relaxed on the beautiful beach, swam in the very warm Gulf of Mexico, and shopped. So much so that I had to buy a second suitcase to bring everything home in. Oops….
I love America. If I could pack up my life, as well as my family and friends and bring it all over here, I’d move in an instant. But Scotland will do for now I guess!

So that’s what I’ve been up to. Now gutted to be on my way home, back to reality. Not that reality is bad, just a bit more mundane, and colder, than Florida.

So in other news, I passed my first year of Uni! (For fear of embarrassment and waking up fellow plane passengers, I’ll cheer inwardly here!!) And somehow managed to do it getting B’s for every class which is nice too 🙂 (although the perfectionist in my was dying for an A, just in something! But there’s always next year….) Which means I’m going home to pick classes for next year, which is quite exciting too 🙂 I have to say I’ve enjoyed it. Certainly more than my last university attempt. The course has been really interesting, for the most part, and I’m getting there with the whole socialising thing. It’s a work in progress shall we say. But again, there’s always next year.

So that’s the uni update…what else? I’m listening to my iPod on shuffle just now (always risky!!) and a line from a Gary Barlow song (much worse could have come on whilst on shuffle!) stuck out a minute ago.
“You can measure the strength of a human by the weight of the love around them”
I’d certainly say so. My parents are wonderful and my relationship with them has been unexpectedly getting even stronger lately. My friends are awesome. They all have extremely different personalities, and there’s a crazy age range between the youngest and the oldest of my closest friends, but whatever you need, one of them is there. Perfect right? 🙂 They’re a hilarious, loving, brilliant bunch. I’m very grateful. And the delightful boy still asleep across my (now almost numb) legs, where do I start with him? He’s my best friend and knows me inside out. I love him.

I’m not really sure where this is going, if anywhere. What’s coming up next? Well, music school is the next big event. And event is exactly what it is. I usually look forward to it and dread it at the same time, and I don’t even think I can explain why. I like my own space, yet love being with my friends, so I both love and hate being surrounded by people for the whole week – there’s a thin line between feeling loved and involved, and feeling overwhelmed and in a sense lonely. For me anyway. Thankfully by the end of the week, the former has usually prevailed. It’s just a very unusual environment, but it’s one I’d hate to be without for that week each year. As for God, who often gets a mention in these blog posts, I’m not sure what’s going on there just now. We’re on shaky ground I guess, but I know he’s still there. Or something like that.

Other than that, I need to get flat hunting soon, then I’m off to New York for a few days in September to celebrate my 21st birthday (eeeek!!!) then back to uni! Exciting few months ahead for sure!

Hopefully write again sometime soon, over and out X
