close to somebody

“Communication. It’s the first thing we really learn in life. Funny thing is, once we grow up, learn our words and really start talking, the harder it becomes to know what to say or how to ask for what we really need.”

“At the end of the day, when it comes down to it, all we really want is to be close to somebody.”

Both of these quotes are from my favourite tv show of the moment: Grey’s Anatomy. And right now, they’re very accurate to life.

(this is my first post in quite a while so I may well ramble!!) As I’m sure I’ve said before, I am hopeless at expressing how I really feel, in person anyway. Give me a phone to text with or email or Facebook or even a good old fashioned bit of paper, and I’m sorted. But in person, not so much. Not at all in most cases. And again, as I’ve said time and time again, I wish it was more socially acceptable and appropriate to tell people how much they mean to you, without sounding/looking like a total weirdo. It’s maybe a bit idealistic, but it’s still something I’d like to happen. I mean, to quote what Rachel said in a ‘Friends’ episode I watched today – “Who doesn’t like being told that someone loves them?”
I’m not really sure where this post is going, but right now, there are people in my life who need support. Some in obvious ways, and others are a bit better at hiding it. And they are all people who mean a huge deal to me. Ones who quite frankly, are so important to me, that it hurts me to think of them upset. Which brings me to the first quote I mentioned – communication. I’m hopeless at it. But this picture I found on Pinterest earlier (can’t you tell my studying is going well?!!) gives a good alternative, and one that I think can mean just as much:

they invented hugs to let people know you love them without having to say anything
